The "Steps To Independence" programme, selected by UniCredit Foundation through the Call for Education 2023, aims to support children from the most vulnerable groups residing in state child institutions at risk of school dropout.

It provides direct educational support, promotes higher education, teaches employability skills, and connects them with potential employers.

The programme focuses on children aged 11 to 19 from state institutions in Belgrade, who are often "invisible" and face significant stereotypes. These children are vulnerable to crime, trafficking, and exploitation, requiring extensive support to navigate their path towards independence.

It serves children from across the country who reside in two specific institutions included in the project. These institutions house children from various parts of Serbia, all of whom are at high risk.

"Steps To Independence" empowers state care institution staff, employment agencies (both national and private), social workers (including students), and businesses to support these vulnerable children. The programme provides comprehensive aid, ensuring that the children receive the necessary tools and opportunities to achieve independence and integration into society.
