Meriton: celebrating the achievements of the first generation of university students

A journey of individual transformation, but also a collective achievement.

In May 2025, during the regional meeting in Heilbronn, the ArbeiterKind.de community renewed a special tradition: forming a guard of honour to celebrate those who had completed their studies or started their careers.

For many students who are the first in their families to attend university and earn a degree, these achievements are not always recognised or celebrated as they deserve.

In fact, families are often not fully aware of the significance of these successes.

That is why the ArbeiterKind.de community takes the time each year to celebrate together and highlight each person's progress.

This year, one of the most exciting moments was celebrating Meriton, an active member of the Heidelberg group.

Meriton says:

"I was the first person in my family to go to university, where I studied chemistry.

For over two years, I have been involved with Arbeiterkind.de, supporting and encouraging others on their journey.

I have now completed my master's thesis at the DKFZ (German Cancer Research Center) – a huge success for me.

The Arbeiterkind.de community helped me a lot during my studies, as it provided me with a safer space and unconditional support."

His story shows how much community support can achieve: giving courage, offering help, and ensuring that no achievement goes unnoticed.
